SDCS – Differences between SD Frame and CS Frame

Still confusing about the latest SD series product – SDCS?

Well, you are at the right place. As this topic’s objective is to clear your doubts about the new product series of SDCS.

It’s been 2 months, since the SDCS launched and we know that some of you may be still confusing about the SDCS product.

Hence, we specially created this topic and we would like to share with you some of our learning about the SDCS.

First - what is SDCS/CS Frame?

SD Gundam Cross Silhouette (SDCS) is a line of Gunpla kits features inner frame technology, similar to Real Grade and Master Grade kits but on a smaller scale. Each kit’s parts can be attached to either an 8.5 cm “SD” Frame, which features proportions inspired by Super Gachapon World: SD Gundam X, or a taller 9.5 cm “CS” frame with proportions inspired by SD Gundam G Generation Genesis.

Second - what's the difference between CS Frame and SD Frame?

SD Frame is slightly shorter and lack of articulation compared to the CS Frame. While, CS frame is taller and the frame has better articulation. For SD Frame, the articulation is very basic and it’s similar to the standard SD kit. Which the elbow and the knee have no articulation. In contrast, the CS Frame articulation is great and it can move exactly the same as the new HG series kit.

Here some sample images for you to have a clearer image of the articulation comparison.

Third - Is the special set SD GUNDAM CROSS SILHOUETTE RX-78-2 GUNDAM & CROSS SILHOUETTE FRAME SET includes 2 units of RX-78-2?

Every SDCS kit comes with the basic SD Frame for you to complete the assembly. While the CS Frame is sold separately, except this special frame set. The set comes with two types of frames in the same package, but the package only includes 1 x RX-78-2 armor parts. So you can not build 2 RX-78-2 at the same time. 🙁

Fourth - Is the CS frame suitable for the other SD series kit?

Sadly, the answer is NO~ As the old series kits are mostly using polycap as the joint movement and considered about the height and the build architecture of previous SD series are different. So both of the SD and CS Frame are not suitable for the other SD series kit. (Unless you do hard modification)

Fifth -  Is SDCS series kit include the CS frame?

Well, we have to tell you that the CS frame is sold separately. (As usual Bandai gimmick XD) As we have mentioned above, each SD kit only comes with the basic SD frame. Instead of CS frame. You can easy to identify this on the box art.
